An Unconventional Path to Risk Management

Mark’s journey into the world of safety and risk management was anything but direct. It began with a childhood curiosity about the ingredients listed on cereal boxes, which led him to study Chemistry in college. After graduating, he took a job in the chemical industry. However, his path took a sharp turn when his new employer learned he had been a volunteer fireman. They suggested he trade his lab coat for a role as a Safety Engineer/Tech, where he began working with safety training, Industrial Hygiene, and Safety Audits. From that starting point, Mark built a distinguished career, moving on to become a consultant for OSHA compliance and Safety, then into a Risk Management role in the staffing industry, and ultimately to his current position as Director of Risk Management at Staff Zone.

A Rewarding Mission

When asked what he finds most rewarding about his job, Mark points to the dual responsibility of protecting his company's profits from accident-related losses while also implementing measures to prevent harm to workers. "My work critically matters to our organization," Mark shares. "It feels good to be necessary and make a difference".

This sense of purpose is a cornerstone of his company’s success. According to Mark, what sets The Staff Zone apart is its "strong safety culture with full ownership support". Since 2004, The Staff Zone has specialized in meeting the blue-collar staffing needs for the construction, light industrial, and special events sectors.
